Mama

Moms are too easy to take for granted when you are a child.  I never understood the depths of sacrifice and care and love of my Mom until I became a mother myself.  The moment I saw my child’s face it was all over… I never could go back to the person I was before… my heart was forever changed.  It was like my very own “Grinch” moment where my heart grew in size!  It’s amazing what mothers experience to have their babies.  The crazy shape your body takes on to carry your babies, the sleepless nights, the multiple bums you clean, the vomit and other messes you clean up, the crying (both of your child’s and your own!), hormones (those can be a beast!), the never ending laundry, the cooking and cleaning, always being last to the dinner table and last to get up again, and on the list goes. It’s the hardest job in the world BUT the best job in the world!  I’ve come to understand God’s love in a way I never did before since I became a Mama… The love I have for my babies is forever, unconditional, beyond any amount of words I could ever express, unchanging, overwhelming and the joy they can bring me is unlike any other joy.  They hold my heart everywhere they go.  Through the good moments and the hard moments, nothing is like the love I have for my children.  That’s the same love that the Lord has for His children.  I finally got it.
So to my Mama….
Thank you for risking your life to have me when the doctors told you not to.  Thank you for carrying me for all those months (I understand the pain!).  Thank you for all the little years and for the sacrifice you made to raise me. Thank you for all the time you spent loving me through the moments I don’t even remember.  Thank you for being goofy and putting underpants on your head while doing laundry just to keep us laughing.  Thank you for the meals, the boo-boo kisses, the unseen tears, the snuggles, the bedtime tuck-ins, the many messes you cleaned, the lap I always fell asleep on during church, the teenage years you endured (I pray my girls aren’t as sassy as I was!), the rebellion you patiently watched and prayed through, the sassiness you loved me through, the heartache I gave you, the endless things you did that I always took for granted, the many nights you rubbed my back to help me fall asleep, the care you gave me whenever I was sick (I still wish you were here when I’m sick), the support you have given to me whether by words, hugs, prayers, or just your presence… I have loved it all.  They say that the best gift a mom can give to their children is to love their  child’s father… you did that well. Thank you.  For all the things seen and unseen, THANK YOU for being my Mom!
“For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” –Ps. 139:13
I’m so thankful for the womb I was knit together in!  Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I wish I was there to celebrate with you! I love you!
