Comfort in the night...

Story time... Last night my daughter woke me up in tears from a nightmare. She couldn't remember all the details except that she was with me and there was evil near that she was trying to stop. She was afraid and just needed mama to hold her. I prayed over her and asked my husband to pray as well. Then I started to tell her scripture... to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, praiseworthy (Phil.4:8)... I told her He who is in her is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)... That God has not given her a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).... I told her that fear is not hers to carry or to let control her but when she feels fear to take that thought captive (2 Cor. 10:5) and remind herself of truth. I asked her if she wanted any oils before bed, she asked for ones that help with fear so we put them on (Joy+Valor) and then after walking her back to her bed, I tucked her in, hugged her tight, prayed over her again and then she said, "Tell me happy things..." So I reminded her of her sweet cousin Aria playing peek-a-boo and her cousin Blake saying, "don't touch my toes"  and her birthday coming up and her friends she adores and how deeply she is loved. She fell back asleep right away and I was so thankful to be HER mama. To be the one up in the night to calm her these past 8 years of her life. To be her comfort, her prayer warrior, her snuggle-buddy. Such a gift.
One of my favorite parts of motherhood is getting to share the Bible with my children in practical and tangible ways. When they can actively put God's Word into practice it fills my heart to overflowing and confirms in my heart that I'm doing what God has called me to do.
Maybe someone reading this needs that reminder to not let fear hold you back and control your future destiny that the Lord is calling you to. He has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind!
